Volunteering Programs
PSD Nepal's volunteer programs strengthen rural education through community development, education, and environmental conservation, with volunteers receiving training, raising funds, working 30-35 hours weekly, paired with Nepali counterparts, and staying with host families.
Student Exchanges
PSD Nepal is currently working with CRED, Bond University, and World Challenge to establish a student exchange in various districts throughout the year. This exchange would involve both the staff and students at the school of 800 pupils. Organize teacher training courses, with British teachers up-skilling and resourcing Nepali teachers, as well as activity weeks in students running educational and extra-curricular activities in schools.
Short-Term-Volunteer Program
We run short-term volunteer initiatives during the Summer and Easter seasons, where international volunteers collaborate with local communities on impactful projects such as building playgrounds, classrooms, or water tanks, teaching basic English, and conducting awareness sessions. Medical student volunteers also support health posts and community hospitals by assisting with check-ups, general care, and organizing health and sanitation activities. These programs typically last from 4 weeks to up to 5 month, offering hands-on experiences that contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of rural communities in Nepal.
Long-Term-Volunteer Program
Our long-term volunteer programs offer meaningful opportunities for individuals to engage in grassroots social development. Volunteers support communities by organizing awareness-raising activities on social, environmental, and development issues; forming youth, student, and women’s self-help groups; teaching English; and contributing to small-scale infrastructure projects like school construction. Those placed with Social Development Organizations (SDOs) also focus on strengthening local management capacity, promoting participatory approaches, and empowering communities to advocate for their rights. These programs aim to build resilient, self-reliant communities while also nurturing volunteers as advocates for sustainable development and social change.
Research Exchanges
PSD Nepal is also engaged in research exchanges with overseas professors, doctoral and master's students, and post-docs. As noted in 3.8, PSD provides its services for research programs as well as arranging placements for research students researching various aspects of studies in Nepal. PSD can assist with and provide all the necessary resources required for PhD level research.
Medical Electives and Exchanges
PSD Nepal offers elective courses and exchanges for medical students from Europe, America, and Australia. The Easter Program involves medical students volunteering in health posts and community hospitals, assisting with check-ups and general care, and organizing health and sanitation activities in villages. Exchanges with American universities are also being established to aid earthquake-struck zones like Langtang.
Entrepreneurship Exchanges
PSD Nepal partners with colleges and institutions from Europe, America, and Australia to promote grassroots social entrepreneurship. These exchanges address journalism, handicrafts, Nepali cultural heritage, NGO management, health, and conservation. In June 2017, Mercer University students from Atlanta developed new Early Childhood Development methods, ran student classes and provided local teacher training. This exchange included visits to Chitwan, Kathmandu Valley, and Pokhara.
