Since 2003, PSD Nepal’s Summer Programs have united local communities with international volunteers, working hand in hand for impactful development in Nepal. From building schools and water systems to environmental action and creative exchange, these summer initiatives embody collaboration, learning, and long-term change.
About the Summer Program
PSD Nepal’s Summer Programs are immersive volunteer experiences that empower participants to contribute to sustainable development in rural Nepal. Each summer, teams composed of Nepali and international students join forces to tackle real challenges - from education and health to environmental conservation and infrastructure. The programs foster lifelong friendships, cultural understanding, and the kind of transformation that ripples out across communities and generations

| July - August 2025 | World Challenge Program, UK |
From July to August 2024, PSD Nepal partnered with the World Challenge Program (UK) for a plantation project in Bhimapokhara, Baglung. Together with local communities, six groups of students and teachers from UK schools planted around 1,250 seedlings, including walnuts, Sichuan peppers, avocados, and lemons, to restore barren land andpromote sustainable environmental practices. Beyond reforestation, the project strengthened cultural exchange and community engagement through cooking classes and cultural programs. The fruit-bearing trees will contribute to soil conservation, local agriculture, and nutrition, while the collaboration fostered lasting connections and a shared commitment to a sustainable future for Nepal. |
| April 2025 | St. Peter's School (UK), World Challenge Program |
A group of 18 students, 2 teachers, and 1 expedition leader from St. Peter’s School, UK, joined PSD Nepal and the World Challenge Program for a tree-planting initiative in Majkatera, Baglung District. Over three days, they planted more than 220 walnut seedlings in collaboration with local communities. The volunteers were warmly welcomed by host families with traditional ceremonies and fully immersed themselves in the cultural exchange. Their efforts not only contributed to reforestation and soil conservation at altitudes of up to 2,200 meters but also created meaningful connections between the local community and international participants. |

| 2019 | Bristol Volunteer Development Abroad |
Volunteers improved infrastructure in Sima village by constructing drainage trenches and building three public bathrooms near the water taps. At Amar Primary School in Kathekhola, they repainted classrooms and buildings, while at Shivalaya School they taught lessons and used micro funds to provide new sports equipment and teaching supplies. |
| 2019 | Heidelberg Sustainable Development Abroad (HeiSDA) |
Volunteers completed plastering the interior and exterior walls of a community building and constructed and plastered a new toilet block. They also supported the construction of a new building for a women’s group by assisting builders with materials such as rocks, bricks, and cement. |
| June 2019 | Bond Aid Program, Bond University |
Sixteen volunteers from Bond University, Australia, together with three national volunteers, worked in Harmi, Gorkha, supporting the secondary school, primary school, and the local health post. In agriculture, they planted 200 coffee seedlings with community members. Although most volunteers had no medical background, one trained physiotherapist provided sessions for local people in need of therapy and trained health post staff in physiotherapy techniques, strengthening local healthcare capacity. |

In Harmi, Gorkha, volunteers supported secondary and primary schools as well as the local health post. They built and decorated toilets, provided sports equipment, and taught English, social science, and health and hygiene. In agriculture, they helped construct two poly tunnels with local support. For the health post, volunteers supplied medical equipment and medicines, and trained 12 women with small children on how to make reusable diapers. |

Volunteers supported the construction of a building for the Nayabazar Women’s Group in Ilam and engaged in activities such as teaching in schools and leading awareness campaigns. The program also fostered cultural exchange and knowledge sharing between volunteers, teachers, students, and local stakeholders, strengthening community relations as a lasting asset. |

Twenty volunteers participated in the program at Gram Sudhar Lower Secondary School in Gamcha, Gokarna. Over three intensive days, they painted school buildings and helped construct pathways connecting classrooms and toilet facilities, improving the school environment. |

Volunteers revitalized the local pond and deep well by cleaning polluted water, renovating drainage systems, and improving surrounding public spaces. Safety railings and low walls were installed to prevent accidents and reduce littering. In addition, personal hygiene awareness was raised, and sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap were distributed to local residents and students with the support of a health officer. |

The project included road construction and renovation, building soak pits, smokeless stoves, and garbage pits, as well as teaching and WASH lessons. Volunteers also painted the school, improving both infrastructure and the learning environment. |

Volunteers contributed to building infrastructure in Kathmandu and supported a women’s group in Ilam, strengthening community facilities and empowering local women. |
| June 2017 | Mercer on Mission Project |
Volunteers participated in a three-day country orientation with sessions on Nepali language, culture, the education system, early childhood status, development, personal safety, and health. At Tri-Ratna Cooperative School in Bungamati, Lalitpur, they worked alongside local teachers, first observing and later teaching several classes, contributing to both cultural exchange and educational support. |

Ox-Adventure volunteers supported the school by building toilets and engaging students in extracurricular activities. Over the past several years, they have also provided solar panels, an LCD projector, laptops, a library, outdoor learning spaces, and building improvements. Their long-term support has been instrumental in raising the school’s educational standards. |

These volunteers will be contributing for the reconstruction of the education system of Nepal after the massive earthquake. |

Students from partner universities supported rural schools and communities by constructing classrooms and sanitation facilities, improving water supply systems, and engaging in community development activities. The project strengthened educational infrastructure, promoted better hygiene, and created opportunities for cultural exchange between Nepali communities and international volunteers. |

Volunteers supported rural communities through school construction, classroom painting, and community development. In Chitwan and Gorkha, they built new classrooms, funded water projects, and improved early childhood spaces. In Ilam, they added schoolrooms, a women’s cooperative office, and introduced creative teaching methods. In Baglung, projects focused on safe drinking water, smokeless stoves, classroom repairs, community center extensions, and environmental protection efforts. |

Easter Medical Program: The health camps addressed diverse medical needs in the community, offering dental care, general check-ups, obstetrics and gynecology services, and free medication. A total of 720 patients in Lapse, Lele, Thaiba, Chapagaon, and Bandegaun received treatment. Professional Nepali doctors worked alongside international volunteers, ensuring both quality care and knowledge exchange. |

Health Awareness Program: They worked in primary health care centre, sub health posts and health posts. During the placement there was a health camp run in Primary health care centre. |

They constructed a three-room building and also built five smokeless stoves and one soak pit. At Janakalyan econdary School, another group installed water tanks and taps, constructed seven toilets and twenty-five soak pits, and upgraded seven smokeless stoves in the community. |
